A managerial position, accolades, awards, financial success – that’s what everyone wants in a career. Right…?
As it seems… not always.
Further down in this article we’ll look at a couple of famous people who gave up perfectly viable, successful careers to go in a completely different direction.
But for now – what’s astrology got to do with this?
I often hear from my students: ‘I want to know what I’m good at so I can make a career out of it”.
Now that’s legit – for sure we want to capitalize on what we’re naturally good at to make a living.
But stick with me for a second, while I introduce to you this idea that: – ‘Good at Something’ doesn’t mean ‘Happy to Do it For a Living’.
Think about it: A person who’s good at telling jokes doesn’t always want to be a professional comedian.
You might be brilliant at decorating your home, but that’s not the same as the desire to be a professional interior decorator.
Astrologically, EVERYTHING in your chart is a natural strength you possess… but only some of those strengths will form the basis of a satisfying career.
And we don’t always pick the right ones at the beginning.
I would know. I have always been a dynamic, yet structured communicator, and for many years I was successful in the safety industry putting together innovative safety proposals for companies in shipbuilding, construction and petrochemicals.

What I DIDN’T know at the time, was that the right career for me needed a strong streak of caring for people in their personal lives, especially with regard to their career development.

So that’s my story, but I’ve also distilled down in simple terms as to why lots of ‘successful’ people make sudden about-turns in their careers:
- They just went with whatever showed some early promise or successes
- Society said it was a good idea
- They studied or trained in that profession and didn’t want to ‘waste’ their education
But here’s the kicker: None of the above are a good indicator of long-term career satisfaction.
Let’s look at some famous examples, beginning with the lovely Jessica Alba.
Jessica Alba is a very beautiful and successful Hollywood actress. She can easily be voted as the most beautiful Hollywood actress every year.
And she could have continued being one too.
But she quit all of it. In fact, she stopped acting completely and started her own marketing firm selling maternity and baby products.
And she has been so successful at it that the business is now a multi-million dollar company.
So you might be wondering, why did she choose to forgo all that glam and fame to run a business instead?
As you can see in Jessica Alba’s astrology birth chart, there are several planets in Taurus signs in the Ninth House.
Having multiple planets in Taurus sign, she is clearly a Taurus dominant, where her motivations tend to focus on having a practical outcome or a tangible benefit.
Clearly, being a Hollywood star does not directly result in any of such practical outcomes.
But being a business owner does. Especially a business that she can help other mothers to get access to these wonderful baby products that will help their motherhood and parenting.
With the planets in the Ninth House, it displays the natural marketing skills that Jessica Alba has, she’s very comfortable with broadcasting and promotion even if it means that products that the company carries, may not necessarily have to be her own products.
Her sense of fulfillment definitely comes from finding a niche in running a business rather than being a supermodel.
Now let’s take a look at Mayim Bialik.
She started out training as a neuroscientist and is still practicing neuroscience today.
Did she go into show business because she is not successful as a neuroscientist?
That’s not true. In fact, she got a phD in neuroscience, especially relevant in the fast-paced and competitive industry of biotechnology.
She is also prominent in her role as a comedian in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory and was even nominated four times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Just like Jessica Alba, she could have continued being a professional neuroscientist, but she decided to stop being a scientist and took on a completely different role as a comedian instead (and doing a pretty good job at it!)
You can see from her chart that most of her planets in Sagittarius signs, hence her dominant archetype is in Sagittarius – fun-loving, enthusiastic, and full of energy.
Her planets in Sagittarius signs are mostly located in the Fourth and Fifth House, which means it needs to be very personal and self-expressive in nature
The Fifth House also represents hobbies and fun activities, which is why she is so good at being a comedian.
In fact, her success can also be seen when she was the star of a TV show called Blossom.
Mayim Bialik is a perfect example where she can be good at being a neuroscientist but it does not mean that it has to be her only career.
And this is why I am so motivated to teach people to read their own charts.
Imagine what it would mean for yourself if you knew what your dominant archetype was.
If you knew what natural skills you have and can apply for your career.
If you knew which areas of your life you can focus on to have a meaningful life for yourself and others.
The most intelligent people can start planning for the kind of careers they desire, that would bring them way more satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment, which may or may not be what you are currently doing.
